reaction to the flu virus?

Have a patient with ongoing and spreading skin eruptions. I am not asking for help with this case (yet) but for an understanding of what the doctor told him. When the eruptions got worse and started to climb his leg that became very swollen, I sent him to his PCP. They did lots of tests that so far all show nothing remarkable. They even took a biopsy of some of the skin. His (American) doc speculated that he is having a reaction to the flu he had a few months ago. This doctor explained to him that they are seeing this in older men, maybe over 60, who don't get a very serious case of the flu. Some time later they develop either altered platelets of some sort or a rash/outbreak as reaction to the flu virus. BTW he has some low level sensations in his throat today when he was in the doctor's office. It did not go bad and he had onsite care. They are going to order triamcinolone, benadryl, and a daytime allergy med that he forgot.

So I understand the words but not the meaning of "a reaction to the flu virus." This sounds like an allergic reaction to a virus. Can someone explain?

Hi,
In the homeopathic literature, I have come across post-influenza syndrome. I take it to be similar to a miasm. The initial infection leaves problems that enter a deeper level in the body. They talk about specific remedies, but I would rely on a whole person constitutional analysis. Still looking at that literature might give some hints.

It may be capillary toxicosis, something my son had many years ago (for reasons we never learned).

If your patient were a child, I’d suggest looking at Henoch Schonlein purpura, which may be a more dramatic version of what you’re seeing. Both are hemorrhagic problems, so you’re probably looking at a snake remedy if your patient want’s treatment.

This must be what the MDs are talking about. This particular 70 year old did not have a flu vaccine which this article seems to emphasize. However this article helps me begin to make sense of what they say. Thanks and I will read it a few more times.

This has to be what they are suggesting. The jury is still out as he has tested negative to all tests so far. When asked what the biopsy was looking for, they could not offer any answer other than, looking...

Excellent idea. In just a brief review of materia medica, the post influenza symptoms seem to be fatigue related. With our ever evolving viruses and ever-changing treatments, this seems to be a good consideration. Post Influenza auto-immune disease? Wow, could this be an emerging ailment?

Wow, I can't be sure by looking at pictures. His "spots" are more like flea bites but in a very similar pattern. In pictures he and his wife sent, there appears to be an underlying darkness vertically along his shin bone. IT would reinforce this capillary idea, I think. He is an older man, not a child. The doctors are, so far, stumped.

I had an infection on my forearm a few years ago when I had been in Brazil and got bitten by some biting flies.
Yes, I scratched the itching.

A few days later we went to Montevideo, Uruguay and the infection started.

I was to shake and take a few drops four times a day, which I did.
It started to get better the first day.
Within a week, it was almost cleared.
I think I continued the medicine for 2 more weeks and by then I was completely healed.

Several years later, I developed what I thought was a similar infection in the external corners of my mouth.
I used the same medicine and it went away.

I frequently make up combination medicines myself by putting one pellet of each remedy that I want to include into a small water bottle or thoroughly cleaned vitamin bottle and shake and sip.

If you post some exact symptom description, you may get a suggestion that will work.
